How It All Started
Founded in 1922 by E.D. King Sr. in Anniston, Alabama, the King Motor Co. Inc., now known as Sunny King Automotive Group, has evolved into a trusted, iconic family name in the automotive business in our area. The legacy of Sunny King Automotive Group began when E.D. King Sr. acquired the Ford Motor Company in Anniston, Alabama in 1922. Guided by the principle that every transaction must be satisfactory to every customer, the "King" name became synonymous with excellence.
Four Generations of Family Leadership
E.D. King Jr. continued the family tradition, leading the company to remarkable success throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Sunny King Automotive Group expanded its reach across Alabama, adding franchises of renowned brands such as Honda, Chrysler Plymouth, Isuzu, Hyundai, and Toyota, to name a few. In 1977, King Honda Car World was introduced to the Auburn and Opelika area, marking a significant milestone in the dealership's history. What began as a small family business continued to thrive under the leadership of E.D. "Dave" King III, with assistance from his son, Dave King IV.
